Are you the kind of person who loves getting to the end of a product?
Or do you dread the thought of running out and buying your next beauty-refill?
I LOVE getting to the end of products, mostly because getting to the end of a product means I’ve managed to not lose it over the course of 3-18 months depending on the usage levels.
I also get a thrill knowing I get to either shop around for some new products or to restock a fav. I always try to finish a product til the end (unless it’s completely unbearable, then it’s going in the bin), so I’ve compiled a lovely little pile of beauty-junk I’ve come to the end of.
- UNITE BOING Curl Shampoo + Conditioner
I was recently introduced to Unite from a brand rep who popped into the salon a few months ago. She kindly gave me some products to use, test and talk about.
When looking at the S+C, you aren’t going to be wowed as their simple and sleek packaging is direct and to the point, and it isn’t until you open the shampoo that you’ll actually start to be impressed. The scent is almost this grapey-bubblicious fruity but still manages to be a kind of earthy scent which I actually wish I smelt like e v e r y day.
When using their S+C, I can tell it feels a bit heavy, as my curls are moisturized but I feel like the weight of the product leaves somewhat of a residue in my hair. I air-dry 99% of the time, so that is always my biggest tell with products. I mix in tons of products into my hair from damp to dry to have my large-S curls bounce and behave. I feel like when I stick to my usual product routine with my Unite Products, I get the volume and bounce that I want in my curls, but the isolation and individual waves more so congregate or are prone to being extra frizzy if I do try to break up the one massive curl my hair forms. When used separately the S+C pairs well with another curling product that focuses more on the isolation of the curls rather than the moisturizing, but stand alone these three products don’t beat my air-dry test, nor do they stand up to this Kentucky humidity. Retailing $27-$30 an 8oz bottle, if you are somewhere that is less humid and you have very dry-very curly hair, this may be for you, but for now, is just not for me!
- MAC Lipstick Whirl
I just mentioned this product in my Summer Makeup Essentials post along with the fact that I don’t think I have ever re-purchased a MAC lipstick. Usually I will find one I like, use it for 6 months and then give it to someone or lose it in the abyss. I first heard about this shade in hair school probably three years ago and fell in love with it. Eventually my friends told me I had to stop using theirs and buy my own, which is exactly what I did and three years later I’m featuring it in two blog posts. In the heat of a shopping spree I repurchased this product, not looking at the price or the PIN-Pad, and it is by far my favourite purchase of 2018. It is the lipstick I can wear to work, to church, on a date, and at the park as it goes with everything. Now at $18.50 a tube, I’m glad it takes me a couple years to get through the product, but it is damn worth the dollar bills.
- PFB* Vanish
Alright, let’s get real about body hair. If you have unwanted hair that you get rid of, you can be left with ingrown hairs, bumps, blemishes and dark marks. During your summer holidays you don’t want your skin to call you out on body-hair removal with existing signs of in-growns or hyper pigmentation. Holly, my beautiful, talented and very informative skin guru recommended me this magical product! It’s from PFB and lightens and brightens the areas on which you roll this, gently exfoliating your skin and healing some sad spots you may be a little worried about. To quote the back of the product:The ultimate triple-action solution for ingrown hairs, razor bumps and dark spots associated with hair removal. Out PFB+ Chromabright formula is now enhanced with antioxidant power to provide even more brightening and protective properties, becoming your ultimate anti-aging body care product. So, if you need any of that triple-action repair, don’t hesitate to purchase this product. It’s a roll-on application and it makes the .93g in the tube last forever. When I say I roll it on everywhere I mean it. Especially for all you who are prone to hyperpigmentation (all my brown skin beauties) or all the ladies with that thick-thick hair (unfortunately I somewhat fall into both these categories where I am affected negatively and I’m SUPER hairy). This $29.95 purchase is a game changer for you this pool season.
*PFB also known as Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae, is a condition where screw-shaped hair growth pattern winds itself like a screw into the skin. This generally looks like a small hard pimple and is painful. Do not pick out. Apply PFB Vanish twice a day to the area.
- Schmidt’s Deodorant
Weird but necessary. I got this Deo at TJMAXX for $3.99 in the scent WAVES. I love that there is no aluminium, no propylene glycol (don’t know what that even is), no artificial fragrance, vegan, cruelty-free and that it doesn’t break out my underarms!!!!! For less than $4 I was in, and it has a nice buttery natural scent. It doesn’t wear off so easily through the day and it more so blends with your natural scent to kind of cancel out your negative B.O. with a neutral, fairly decent deo scent. I believe regular retail price varies between $5-10 and it is one I think can withstand this summer heat and my summer sweating. If you’re looking for a new deo-stick this season, this will last you until the fall, but on the bright side in a few months when you need a new deo-stick you can try a new scent!
So now you’ve heard about my beauty empties, what are some of the products you’ve finished in the past, or recently that you’ve been loving?
Also, let me know if you’re liking these posts, I’ve been a bit heavy on the beauty posts recently – thinking about making a #MESSYKNOT wedding update post soon, or a casual uniform/outfit post.
If you’re in Louisville, you can grab a bottle of the PFB Vanish at The Parlour
