Hello! I wanted to share with you something that I have noticed every year, the community eye-roll we have for those who declare “New Year, NEW me.” I have it driven deep into my hippocampus to write my goals down every year. Thanks, Dad. So I am constantly making goals for myself, for my career and for my health and for my happiness. We are always setting goals for ourselves: to lose some weight, to finally take that pottery class, or to roll out that yoga mat we bought 3 years ago. It is rare we ever look outward and see goals to better our relationships with others, or how we can make those tiny changes to better the environments we are in. When was the last time you sat down and thought “This year I want to work on communicating better with my <insert significant other’s name>”? So, this year my boyfriend and I sat down and wrote down some goals we have together, and I thought it could be interesting to share them with you (Hello, internet).
- Try more restaurants
- Find a mutual outdoor activity we both are/can be passionate about
- Go to more shows, museums, events (aka get out of the house)
- Save up for a trip together
- Less time on social media when we’re together
- Finding a better balance between our time (by ourselves, together and shared with others)
Even reading some of them I’m thinking “Duh, just try somewhere new” OR “Just put your phones away!!!!”
Yeah, I get it. We get it. We also really like going to our favourite Indian restaurant which is only a block from my work or getting the Taco Bell five dollar box when we’re both tight on cash. I also use my phone for work: to post pictures, stay interacted with clients and blog readers, and gather my inspiration for more hairstyles/posts/content. Most importantly, he and I are complete opposites. He is an outdoorsman, I am an indoorswomen. So, the mutual outdoor activity goal will be pretty interesting to find, considering he wants to go camping – in the woods, away from internet, and in a tent. Meanwhile, my ideal version of camping is us cuddling and watching a movie, and that has nothing to do with camping at all. We both have mutual goals for our relationship, some that we need to start with us working on ourselves, some that will take a while to achieve (I’m really pushing for us to go to England together, so we’d have to drop some $$$).
Hopefully this post wasn’t too cheesy. I feel like with social media, especially Instagram, it’s so easy to see the best part of people’s lives. Easy to idolise the couples who always seem to be going places, doing cool things and posting about each other 24/7 #relationshipgoals. I always try to remind myself, that you never know what happens behind closed doors in a relationship, and you never know the conversations between the shots (pictures). Personally, my #relationshipgoals are to work on having a happy, healthy relationship. To work on my communication skills and continue to work on the goals Harrison and I made together!
So, these are my relationship goals with my s/o for the year. Thought it could be interesting to share, maybe bring a back a little bit of a personal touch to the blog.
Let me know what your goals are for the year! I’m curious to know what you are pushing yourself to do, try and see!
New year, new me. Right?
See ya later
