FALL FAVOURITES | 2017

The air is getting colder and all the trees are changing, fall has arrived! Which means I’ve found another excuse to not leave the house, so in an effort to keep you interested I’ve compiled a list of a few things I’ve enjoyed so far this season. Keep reading to see what four things I have been OBSESSED with recently!

Television:  The Good Place, or TGP til the end of this post, created by Michael Schur (writer in The Office, Parks & Rec). I originally was drawn to to show because I saw Kristen Bell’s face on the cover photo on Netflix and I fell in love with her when her I saw her Sloth Meltdown Video on Ellen. I was also drawn to the show because Ted Danson, who I loved after watching Bored to Death (don’t roll your eyes at me for not saying Cheers!! Jason Schwartzman and Ted Danson are a beautiful duo!!!! That show is great!!!!!). Back to TGP, though, I loved watching this show. The humor in this show is great and the style of the show felt similar to Bryan Fuller’s Pushing Daisies which is that drama-comedy-fantasy-weird-shouldthisbeworkingasfunny-itisbecauseilaughed-quirky-easy television. I love Bell’s character, Eleanor, and enjoyed seeing the character continue to work on legitimizing her spot in TGP, and how Bell executes every forking scene as her character is bonding with her possible(?!?!) soulmate Chidi played by William Jackson Harper. I especially love this show because of the last episode of the season, where Danson’s character Michael really develops and everything I had believed of his character completely flips…Which only made me love the show more because I can’t wait for the second season. I flipping LOVE cliffhangers, and I want to know what happens to The Good Place now that we know Michael’s truth! But alas, I can’t say too much otherwise you won’t need to watch the show to know what I’m talking about.

Self-Care Routines: Facials!!!!!!! I can confidently say I didn’t actually understand the point of a facial until I started getting them. I always thought, ‘Hey, I can do a face mask at home and pop my own pimples, and it’s whatever if I don’t wash my face today, I’ll just use a makeup wipe?’ and honestly, I can understand why you would think that too. For the past two years I have been dealing with constant breakouts on my cheeks and jawline and I couldn’t leave the house without a nice coat of full coverage concealer from forehead to chin & a tub of highlighter to reflect away any new pimples. Holly, an esthetician who works at the same salon as me, started working there in August and has started to save my face. She has gotten me on a routine and has told me enough times to start drinking water that I now feel a little self conscious when I haven’t had enough water for the day, but ultimately she is educating me on skin care, both in general and specifically how to take care of my own. She has literally gotten my breakouts out from under my skin and under control! Most importantly, she gave me the confidence to start leaving the house without makeup. I want to dedicate a post to Holly, the Skin Care Queen, but for now I want you to know skin care probably is my #1 favourite this season.

Makeup: So, if you’re actually reading this list in its entirety, you’ll know I’m not so heavy handed with the foundations and concealer anymore. Instead, I am obsessing over L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara because it’s one product I don’t have to spend a million dollars on, and one that would require a second product which is also a million dollars to remove the first product. Confused?  Me too, kinda. I’m sure you’ve heard about this product as it has been advertised the drugstore comeback as the TooFaced Better Than Sex dupe. What can I say? I like not dropping $20+ dollars on mascara that clumps, or one that you need to buy a separate and still expensive remover. This mascara is dependable and affordable, and I keep repurchasing this product. So, that’s enough of a sales pitch of an item I’m not getting paid to tell you I like!

Hair Care: Literally my favourite category!!!!! I have been in LOVE with Davines Oi Oil to re-moisturize my hair and revive my curls. In July, I got a little crazy with the bleach, and in the span of a day I went from brown hair with red highlights to blonde. I wasn’t a fan of the blonde, so I recoloured my hair to copper, hated it, and coloured it back to red within three weeks of my initial bleach drama. It’s safe to say my hair was trashed with my curls deflated and all bounce once had now a faraway dream. With the help of Davines Natural Tech Replumping Shampoo, and Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner (sorry I know these titles are obnoxiously long, but trust me they are magical) being paired with my Oi Oil my hair is finally making a curly comeback s-l-o-w-l-y, but surely. So, maybe I’m that crazy hairdresser that is obsessed with the products she uses at her salon, but trust me, you would be too!

So whilst I wait for the next season of TGP to get on Netflix, you can find me curled up in a ball binge watching Gossip Girl and trying to figure out if I’m more of a Serena or Blair (secretly wishing I’m actually Jenny). Let me know what your fav show is currently and send me some suggestions! I’m eager to expand my ‘to watch’ list!
